A few weeks ago, I had a small experience that made me think about how easily we take ordinary things for granted.

It was a normal evening. I was sitting at home, complaining about how tiring my day had been and how many things were not going the way I wanted. I was worried about my future and felt that I was not doing enough with my life.

While I was sitting there, I received a call from an old friend. We talked for a few minutes, and during the conversation, he mentioned that his father had been unwell for some time. He told me how he had started appreciating simple moments with his family because he had realised that things can change unexpectedly. After the call, I sat quietly for a while.I started thinking about my own life. I had a home to return to, people who cared about me, food on my table, the opportunity to study and work toward my goals, and countless ordinary moments that I rarely noticed.

I realised that I was spending so much time thinking about what I did not have that I had stopped appreciating what I already had.

The next morning, nothing around me had changed. My problems were still there, and my future was still uncertain. But I decided to look at things differently

I had breakfast with my family instead of rushing through it. I called someone I had been meaning to call for weeks. I wentoutside for a walk and simply enjoyed the fresh air.None of these things were extraordinary, but they made the day feel different.

That experience taught me that happiness is not always about achieving something new. Sometimes, it is about noticing the value of things that have been quietly present in our lives all along. We often realise the importance of people, time, health, and simple moments only when we are afraid of losing them. So, before waiting for life to become better, perhaps we should pause and appreciate what is already good in it.

Sometimes, the life we are trying so hard to improve is already filled with things we should be grateful for.

True that we never recognise the value of something or someone until its lost or gone from lives forever.

A beautiful reminder that we often search for happiness in the “next” thing while overlooking the little things already making our lives meaningful. Sometimes, gratitude doesn’t change our circumstances—it simply changes the way we see them. 🤍✨
