A neighbour's package
A delivery worker left a parcel outside the wrong door, and I noticed it while returning with groceries. The label showed a flat upstairs. I was tired and wanted to put everything down, yet leaving it there felt careless, so I carried the package up and knocked twice. I did.
The neighbour opened the door looking worried because they had been waiting all afternoon. Their relief was longer than the task deserved, which made me think about how easily small inconveniences grow when we are already tired. I returned home with sore fingers and a lighter feeling than before it.
Such a small act but you wrote it with so much heart. I get that feeling, coming back tired with groceries and just wanting to put everything down, but still carrying that parcel upstairs because leaving it felt wrong.
