Being Everyone’s Favourite Person, But Nobody’s First Choice

There is a strange kind of loneliness that comes from being liked by almost everyone but feeling chosen by nobody.

I’m the person people remember when they need someone to talk to. I’m the one who listens to long stories, remembers little details, replies to random messages, and

somehow always makes room for other people’s problems. I get invited, included in conversations, tagged in funny posts, and told that I’m such a good friend.

And honestly, for a long time, I thought that meant I had found my place.Until I started noticing the little things.I’m usually the person who texts first. If a conversation goes quiet, I’m the one trying to bring it back to life. If plans are being made, I find out about them eventually, sometimes through pictures posted afterwards. Nobody is necessarily rude to me. Nobody has openly told me that I don’t matter. That’s what makes it confusing.Because how do you explain feeling left out when nobody has actually pushed you away?I have people I can talk to, but I sometimes wonder who I’d call if I had a terrible day and didn’t want to explain why. Who would notice if I stopped being the one who always checked in? Who would think of me first when something exciting happened, instead of remembering me after everyone

else had already heard the news?I know friendships aren’t competitions. I know people have different priorities, busy schedules, and their own lives to manage. I

don’t expect anyone to be available every second or to prove their friendship constantly. But I think there’s a difference between understanding that people are busy and repeatedly feeling like you only fit into their lives when it’s convenient. The hardest part is that I genuinely love the people around me. I remember their birthdays, notice when their moods change, and get excited about things that matter to them. I don’t do these things to earn anything back. That’s simply how I care.

Still, sometimes I wish someone would care about me in a way that made me stop wondering whether they actually wanted me there.

Maybe I’m not anyone’s favourite person. Maybe I’m simply a good friend to several people, and perhaps that’s enough. I’m still learning that my place in someone’s life doesn’t determine my worth.

But if I’m being honest, I would love to experience what it’s like to be someone’s first thought for once. Not because they need something. Not because everyone else is busy. Not because I’m the only person available.Just because they thought of me, and they wanted me there.

Being liked by many people doesn't always mean feeling deeply connected to someone. Sometimes, you just want to know that someone chooses you because they genuinely want you there.

And maybe someone reading this knows exactly what I mean.

Have you ever felt surrounded by people but still wondered if anyone would choose you first?

When you feel like a convenient friend, do you
