Comfort person

Anonymous1 hour agoWrite Freely468 words

I was only 5 yrs old when I first met him. He was 12, but a little kid around me. He was mature in that age too nd me, i was always do lost in myself that i never actually cared for him. We became friends I mean really good friends and my parents never prioritize me as they did my brothers so whenever something used to happen to me at home or anywhere, I would go to him nd sometimes I ran to him. He became so important to me nd i didn't even realize that but I was so sure that he was the only one i could run to whenever I felt like broken. We grew up and stayed together for 5 yrs, then I went to hostel for study because I was so done with my family nd he also suggested me or forced me to study hard so that I'd got into that hostel and continue my life at a place where I won't have to hear to my parent's taunts every time. I was so happy there because I was far from home and I could talk to him on calls at weekends. Then COVID -19 and lockdown etc and I was at home again. One day, I was at his home waiting for him and when he finally came, we had a fight, a very serious one nd I walked away from him. He was following me until I ran away from him so far. I had ego problem that time so i didn't call him even when I was back at hostel. An evening, I felt like I need to talk to him because if I don't, I'd feel like something is broken inside me nd when I called him, his father told me that he was no more, he had gotten something like tumour somewhere nd he couldn't be saved. But I didn't cry, I just disconnected the call nd went to my bed, i opened a book nd read nothing, at dinner i ate a lot, i always do when I'm extremely sad or angry. Finally at midnight, when everyone was asleep, I stared at ceiling nd remembered every moment, I mean everything ever happened between us. I was praying for a call or text or atleast a last msg for me but nothing came nd I realized that I'd not just lost him but a part of me, of my heart and there would never be a "Him & I" as we imagined. But I'm relieved now because even now whenever I feel sad or broken i feel like someone is patting my head, consoling me nd encouraging me to move forward and to be happy always. So, I'm happy for him nd I'll always be happy.

I really liked how you described him as someone who slowly became your comfort person without you even realising it at first. Sometimes the people who become the most important to us aren't the ones we intentionally choose; they just become part of our life through small moments and being there when we need someone. The way you mentioned running to him whenever something happened makes it clear how much safety and familiarity you found in that friendship. And honestly, having someone who makes you feel less alone during difficult moments is something you don't fully appreciate until you look back and realise how much they meant to you.
