Does that make it equal?

I learned today that 0.999... is actually equal to 1. And my first reaction was, "Absolutely not". Naturally, I had to investigate, I started reading about decimals, fractions, limits and why an infinite string of 9s can represent exactly the same number as 1. Then I tried proving it myself with a few different methods.nwhat started as one irritating littlebfact turned into an hour of mathematical condusion and fascination. Somehow maths hadbmanaged to make a number I used every day feels suspicious.
