Doom Scrolling, But Make It Fun

I know doom scrolling gets a pretty bad reputation, and honestly I get why. We have all had those moments where we open Instagram or YouTube for five minutes and suddenly an hour has disappeared. It can make you ridiculously comfortable with doing nothing , keep your brain constantly entertained, and somehow make the idea of getting up and doing actual work feel exhausting. So yes, there’s definitely a side of scrolling that is just terrible for us.

But today, I don’t want to talk about that side. Because sometimes scrolling is actually fun, like genuinely stupidly fun.

There is something about opening Instagram with absolutely no expectations and suddenly finding the most creative meme someone has made out of the most random situation. People are going through their own lives, dealing with their own problems and somehow still finding the energy to turn everything into a joke.

For example, I’ll be scrolling through YouTube shorts and randomly come across Akash Gupta and I swear this man can make me laugh every single time. It does not matter if I am sad, irritated , confused or just having one of those days where I don’t really know what I am feeling. Somehow ten seconds of him and I am smiling again.

And then there’s Instagram, where literally anything can became a meme.

Like the Jass Manak wedding content going around recently. Someone comes up with a completely absurd caption about a video and suddenly thousands of people are adding their own version to it. “Daru pee kar dhol wale ko dhol bajana sikha diya” - I mean, how do people even come up with these thing? 😭

Then there are those random moments when social media collectively loses its mind over something happening in the real world. During the Jantar Mantar protest , there were videos and joke’s everywhere- “Parliament ka doorbell baja kar bhag gaya” , “subway surfers in real life, and all those completely ridiculous edits. You know they probably shouldn’t be this funny, but somehow they are.

And honestly, it’s not always about laughing either .

Sometimes you come across a reel with a line written so perfectly that you just stop scrolling for a second. Someone has somehow put words to a feeling you have been carrying around without knowing how to explain it. You read it and think, Oh! So this is what I have been feeling.

Maybe that’s the part of scrolling I don’t want to completely hate.

When you see the world through a meme, you

I get what you mean! scrolling isn't always a bad thing, we can learn a lot from the content we see and get inspired by the small things.
