Girlhood
There is something beautiful about girlhood that you don’t fully understand while you’re living it.It is in the little things you never thought would become memories.
It is getting ready with your friends even when there is nowhere important to go. It is borrowing someone’s lip balm, fixing each other’s hair, sharing secrets during class, and laughing so hard that your stomach hurts. It is having a favourite song and believing it somehow understands everything you’re feeling.
It is collecting tiny things for no reason—old photographs, movie tickets, handwritten notes, friendship bracelets, dried flowers, screenshots of conversations you never want to forget.
Girlhood is sitting on the floor of your room surrounded by clothes, books, and unfinished plans, talking about your future as if you have already figured it all out.
It is late-night conversations about love, friendship, college, dreams, fears, and completely random things that somehow become the most important conversations in the world.
It is learning how to become yourself while still changing every few months. Some days, girlhood feels magical.Other days, it feels confusing. There are moments when you look in the mirror and wonder who you’re becoming. Moments when you compare yourself to everyone around you. Moments when you feel like you’re falling behind because everyone else seems to know exactly where they’re going. But perhaps that uncertainty is part of its beauty too.Because girlhood isn’t about having everything figured out.
It’s about discovering.Discovering what makes you laugh. What makes you angry. What kind of people make you feel safe. What dreams belong to you and which ones were simply handed to you by someone else.
It’s learning that friendship can change, that people can leave, and that losing someone doesn’t always mean you weren’t enough. It’s learning to spend time alone without feeling lonely.
It’s learning that you can be soft without being weak. And maybe the most beautiful part is that we don’t realize we’re living through some of our sweetest memories until they’re already behind us.
One day, we’ll miss the messy bedrooms. The random pictures. The silly jokes. The long conversations that lasted until everyone got sleepy. We’ll miss being excited about small things.
We’ll miss the version of ourselves who could turn an ordinary afternoon into an entire adventure.Maybe that’s why girlhood deserves to be remembered gently.
Not because it was perfect. It wasn’t.There were awkward phases, heartbreaks, insecurities, misunderstandings, and days when getting out of bed felt harder than it should have. But there was also so much wonder. So much laughter.
So many firsts. So many dreams waiting to be discovered. And perhaps growing up doesn’t mean leaving that girl behind.Maybe it means carrying her with you.Keeping her curiosity.
Her softness. Her ability to get excited over little things. Her belief that life could still surprise her.Because someday, we’ll look back and realize that we weren’t waiting for life to begin.
We were already living it.We just didn’t know those ordinary days would become memories we wished we could visit one more time.
