Life before we were always online

What did we even do before phones?

Sometimes I genuinely wonder what life was like before phones and social media became such a huge part of everything

Imagine having a whole day and not feeling the need to check your phone every few minutes.

No Instagram stories.

No Snapchat streaks.

No WhatsApp group messages.

No checking who viewed your story.

No random scrolling when you’re bored

So what did people actually do all day? 😭

They probably just went outside.

You’d meet your friends by actually going to their house or calling them from the landline

If someone didn’t answer, you couldn’t just send a “where are you?” text. You’d either wait or try again later, and birthdays must have felt so different too

Instead of waking up to hundreds of notifications, you’d probably get a few phone calls, handwritten cards, or someone showing up at your door

There was no posting a birthday story for everyone to see. You just wished the person because you actually remembered , even photos were different

You couldn’t take 47 pictures of the same plate of food and then spend twenty minutes choosing one. 😭 You had limited film, so you actually thought before taking a picture

And vacations?

No constant uploading. No worrying about getting the perfect picture. No checking comments while sitting somewhere beautiful

You just… experienced the place.

I think the strangest difference is probably boredom

Today, the second we get bored, our hand automatically reaches for our phone. Waiting for food? Phone. Sitting in a car? Phone. Waiting for someone? Phone. Can’t sleep? Phone.

Before all this, maybe people just stared out of the window, talked to whoever was sitting beside them, read something, listened to music, or simply did nothing

And honestly, doing nothing sounds almost impossible now

"Pehle waqt guzara jaata tha,

ab waqt scroll kiya jaata hai.”

Maybe phones made life easier in so many ways , we can talk to someone sitting thousands of kilometres away, find almost anything within seconds, capture every little moment and stay connected with people we might otherwise lose touch with

But sometimes I wonder what we lost while gaining all this convenience.

Did we become more connected but somehow less present?

Did we start documenting moments so much that we forgot to actually live them?

And if social media suddenly disappeared for one whole month…

What would you actually do with all that extra time? 📱🤔
