Lilies Over Roses

Sometimes, the quietest things hold the deepest meaning. There is something about lilies that makes me choose them over roses, and honestly, I have never been able to explain it properly.

Roses are beautiful. They are bold, romantic, and impossible to ignore. They arrive with grand gestures, dramatic colours, and a kind of beauty

that demands attention. A red rose can say a thousand things without a single word. It can represent passion, desire, and the kind of love people write stories about.

But lilies? Lilies feel different. They don't seem to be trying so hard to be noticed. They simply exist, standing gracefully with their petals open, carrying a quiet elegance that makesyou stop and look twice. There is something peaceful about them, something that doesn't ask for applause or approval. And maybe that is why I prefer them.

I think I have always been drawn to things that don't need to be loud to be meaningful. A conversation that lasts until midnight, a person who remembers the smallest details about you, a message asking whether you reached home safely, or someone sitting beside you without feeling the need to fill every silence. These little things might not look extraordinary to the world, but they can mean everything to the person receiving them.Roses often remind me of the love we are taught to desire. The kind that is obvious, exciting, and impossible to miss. Lilies, on the other hand, remind me of the love that feels like home. The kind that doesn't make you question your worth every other day. The kind that gives you room to breathe, grow, and simply be yourself.Of course, this isn't about saying roses are any less beautiful. Every flower has its own charm, just as every person expresses love differently. Some people love grand gestures, while others find happiness in the smallest acts of kindness. Neither is wrong.

But if I had to choose, I would still choose lilies.Perhaps because I have grown to appreciate softness more than spectacle. Perhaps because I no longer believe that something has to be dramatic to be unforgettable. Or perhaps because there is a part of me that wants to believe the most beautiful things in life are the ones that bring peace rather than confusion.

And isn't that what we all want, eventually? To be loved without having to perform for it. To be understood without explaining every little thing. To be remembered without constantly reminding someone that we exist.Maybe choosing lilies over roses is not really about flowers at all. Maybe it is about choosing substance over appearance, sincerity over performance, and quiet consistency over temporary excitement.Maybe it is about learning that beauty doesn't always announce itself.

Sometimes, it simply blooms. And sometimes, the flower you choose says a little more about the kind of love you hope to find than you ever intended it to.So yes, give me lilies over roses. Not because roses aren't beautiful, but because I have always believed that the loveliest things don't need to compete for attention. They just need to be real.
