my alien examination

A few days ago I was reminiscing my school days with a friend (I say this like im an old person but im still in college). We were talking about our school examinations, since it's exam season currently. One of the funniest papers we had was one English Langauge exam.

The topic was so absurd we could hardly believe our own teachers wrote it. It was to create an editorial fictional story for aliens to invite them to visit our solar system. We were given a list of places with a small description of each and had to make a story around one or more of these places.

I wish I made this up. It was so hilarious that I had to give my full effort.

So i wrote about Kraken Mare, a hydrocarbon lake on the surface of Titan, one of Saturn's moons. It gets its name from the Kraken, a mythological sea monster. Some other places they gave us were Saturn's Rings, Mons Olympus (the tallest mountain in our solar system), Pele Volcano (the largest active volcano in our solar system), the ISS and other satellites and space probes.

I put my writing skills to test and wrote about The Kraken in Kraken.

The story goes like this:

I was going for a swim in the Kraken Mare (it's temperatures are a freezing -180°C). In my excitement I did not notice sign boards warning us of danger. I swam happily until something grabbbed me and lifted me into the air.

Lo and behold, it was a Kraken! The sign boards that I ignored warned us that it was Kraken season. I fought hard and managed to escape (by biting a tentacle, it was gross) but it caught me again. I was so sure I'd become Kraken chow when something hits the monster in the eye.

That thing was Voyager 1, a space probe launched in 1977. It saved my life. Once I reached the shore I saw it holding something out to me. It was a message from the Earth scientists, saying that they're exploring space through this machine. I hugged it, grateful for it's help.

Oh, and if it wasn't clear I'm a being living on Titan in a cottage by the lake.

I got a great mark for this story. My friend's story was based around a Twitch streamer who got abducted by aliens. She also got a great mark.

I just wish I could see my teacher's reaction to the stories. I can't imagine what they expected, giving us such a topic. While i dont miss school, it was definitely a ridiculous time there.
