Prologue of a Story I'll never write

"Do you believe in magic?" She asked me, Golden eyes drilling holes into my soul.

I stared at her, at the fire in her hands, at that faint aura that surrounded her, at the small creatures that scuttled across the yard not belonging to any of the discovered species.

My house was burning. All of my possessions and memories turned to ash right behind me yet I was mesmerised by her beauty.

There is no greater pain to me than finding my old unfinished writing drafts and wondering what went through my mind then. I was an avid reader and writer throughout middle school. I had numerous story ideas running through my head everyday and numerous drafts on my laptop. I have thought out full plots and storylines and character stories but I never got around to finishing them.

Looking at them now, I am in awe of my 12 year old self. I wrote such wonderful words in beautiful worlds. I mourn the loss of my wonder and imagination now. I could've been much greater than I am now if I only just pushed myself and finished my stories.

Some of them stay with me even now. One of my biggest daydream fantasies is a world that i created when I was 13. I was obsessed with elemental powers and mind powers. Like controlling the elements, telekinesis, teleportation. I imaged a world where all this was possible. Where me and my friends were the strongest elementals and bad people used to follow us.

And I still think of this. New people, new plots and powers but the idea remains the same. I have thought of making this into a story but I think I'm scared that I won't be asked to do my younger self justice. My creativity was on a completely different wavelength back then.

I still do love writing. I love sharing my thoughts and ideas with ppeople and getting feedback. I dont think I'd ever be able to gain back the passion I had for writing, simply because I have stronger passions for other things now, but my drafts will always be a reminder of the girl that i was and the girl that I never will be now.

This is beautifully written, especially the opening scene! ❤️ I don’t think your younger self is someone you need to live up to; she’s someone whose imagination you can continue to carry forward. Perhaps growing up hasn’t taken away your creativity; it has simply given you new experiences, emotions and perspectives to write about. And who knows, maybe that unfinished fantasy world is still waiting for you to give it a new beginning. Don’t let the fear of not doing justice to your younger self stop you from creating something wonderful today. ❤️
