Should we actually celebrate birthdays?
Sometimes I wonder whether we actually need to celebrate birthdays. We make a big deal about one date every year, buying cakes, taking photos, receiving messages, and pretending to feel excited about getting older. Yet Birthdays can also be simple reminders that another year has passed. Still I think celebrating doesn't have to mean throwing a huge party or spending too much money. It could simply means eating your favourite food, meeting someone you love, or taking a quiet moment to appreciate being here. Maybe the point isn't the birthday itself.Maybe it is having one day where we deliberately stop our routine and remember that our existence, ordinary as it may feel, is worth noticing.
During my childhood, I felt like birthdays are the best part of the year. I celebrated it like a festival. But then after that I got some maturity and then came to know about the reality and the financial situation of my family that actually humbled me. I no longer beleiev in birthdays and all.
I can relate to this so much. As a child, I used to think birthdays were the most special days of the year and would wait for them like a festival. Growing up, however, brought a different kind of maturity. Understanding my family’s financial situation made me realise how much effort and sacrifice can go behind something as simple as a celebration. Somewhere along the way, birthdays stopped feeling as exciting to me. Maybe growing up is partly about losing that childhood excitement and learning to appreciate the quieter things instead.
