I can relate to this so much. As a child, I used to think birthdays were the most special days of the year and would wait for them like a festival. Growing up, however, brought a different kind of maturity. Understanding my family’s financial situation made me realise how much effort and sacrifice can go behind something as simple as a celebration. Somewhere along the way, birthdays stopped feeling as exciting to me. Maybe growing up is partly about losing that childhood excitement and learning to appreciate the quieter things instead.
