Sometimes I Sleep Just to Escape Reality šŸŒ™

I think sometimes I sleep because I’m tired.

And sometimes I sleep because I don’t want to be awake.

There’s a difference.

There are nights when I’m not even physically tired, but I still want to close my eyes and disappear for a few hours. Not because I love sleeping that much, but because being awake means thinking about everything I’ve been trying not to think about.

When I’m awake, there are things waiting for me.

Messages I don’t know how to reply to.

Things I need to figure out.

Conversations I keep replaying.

Decisions I keep postponing.

Things I wish had gone differently.

And sometimes, honestly, I just don’t want to deal with any of it.

So I sleep.

I put my phone away, turn off the lights, get comfortable, and hope my brain will finally stop for a while.

Sleep becomes this little escape where nobody needs anything from me. I don’t have to reply to anyone. I don’t have to make a decision. I don’t have to pretend I’m okay. I don’t have to think about tomorrow.

For a few hours, everything is paused.

And I know it’s not exactly the healthiest way to deal with things. Sleeping doesn’t solve whatever is bothering me. When I wake up, the same problems are usually still there.

But sometimes I think I just need that break.

There are days when I’ve spent so much time thinking that even doing nothing feels exhausting. My mind keeps going from one thought to another, and sleep feels like the only way to make it quiet.

The strange part is that sometimes I wake up feeling better—not because anything changed, but because I finally got some distance from my own thoughts.

Other times, I wake up and immediately remember everything I was trying to escape.

And that feeling is honestly the worst.

Because for a few hours, I had forgotten.

Then reality comes back all at once.

I’m slowly learning that I can’t sleep through every difficult feeling. Eventually, I have to wake up and deal with whatever I’ve been avoiding.

But I also don’t think every nap or early night needs to mean I’m running away from my problems.

Sometimes I’m genuinely tired.

Sometimes I just need a break.

And sometimes, yes, I’m sleeping because being awake feels a little too heavy.

Maybe the goal isn’t to never escape.

Maybe it’s to make sure that when I wake up, I slowly learn how to face the things I once needed sleep to hide from.

When the world feels too heavy, is it better to
