The almost salary

A friend told me about her first salary today. She had already planned how much to save. What to buy for her parents and which bill to pay first. She counded excited, but there was a seriousness in her voice that I hadn't expected.

I remembered how we used to imagine earning money. We talked about shopping 🛒 without checking price tags, ordering food whenever we wanted, and finally buying all the things we had saved in online carts. We rarely spoke about rent, family expenses emergency savings, or the stranger guilt of spending money on ourselves.

Growing up seems to turn every amount into a calculation. Even a small treat can come with a mental reminder of something more responsible. We could have done with that money.

I hope she buys herself something nice before the month disappears into expenses.
