The conversation I almost avoided

Today, I noticed someone sitting alone during college and, for a moment, I wanted to say hello, I almost walked past, thinking it might feel awkward. Then I remembered how easily people can feel lonely even when surrounded by others. Sometimes a simple conversation may mean more than we realize.

So I stopped and asked how their day was going. It became a surprisingly comfortable conversation, and we laughed about ordinary college problems,. Later I kept thinking about how I came to walking away. Maybe meaningful connections do not always begin with friendship. Sometimes they begin with one small decision to speak.
