The day I stopped explaining myself
Today, I found myself explaining a small personal decision to someone who did not really need an explanation. I kept giving reasons because I wanted them to understand and approve. Halfway through speaking, I realized I was trying to prove that my choice was valid simply because they questioned it.
I stopped and let the conversation moves on, It felt strange, almost uncomfortable, but also peaceful. I realized not everyone needs to understand every decision I make . Some choices can simply belong to me Tonight, I felt lighter knowing that I do not have to turn every part of my life into something I must defend.
I really liked this because it captures something so many people struggle with. Sometimes we keep explaining ourselves not because we owe anyone an explanation, but because we want them to understand and approve of our choices. Learning to simply let the conversation move on must feel strange at first, but there’s a certain peace in realizing that not everyone needs to agree with you. A simple decision doesn’t become wrong just because someone questions it. 🤍
