the goodbye we never said

I used to think that people left only after a big fight.

I thought there had to be a reason, an argument, or something serious that ended a relationship. But life taught me thatsometimes people simply grow apart.

There was someone I used to talk to every single day. We knew each other's little habits, favorite songs, random thoughtsand even the boring details of our day. Talking to them never felt like an effort.

Then things slowly changed.

The replies became shorter. Conversations that once lasted for hours started ending in a few minutes. Sometimes I would wait for a message and pretend that I wasn't waiting.

I noticed everything, but I didn't say much.

I kept thinking things would become normalagain.

One evening, I opened our old conversation and read some of the messages. It felt strange. The person who once knew almost everything about my life had slowly becomesomeone I didn't know how to talk to anymore.

I wanted to ask what happened.

But I was scared of the answer.

So I didn't ask.Maybe that was my mistake, or maybe it was simply life moving in a different direction.

A few weeks later, I stopped checking my phone for their messages. That was when I realized I was finally accepting it.

I still remember the good days. I still smile at some old memories. But I don't want to go back anymore. Not because those moments weren't important.

They were.

They just belong to a different part of my life now.I think we sometimes hold on to people because we are afraid that letting them go means those memories meant nothing.

But that's not true.

Someone can be important to you and stillnot be a part of your future.

Some people come into our lives for a reason. Some stay for years, while others stay only long enough to teach us something.

And maybe that's okay.I don't hate them.

I don't blame them.

I just hope they are doing well.

And if we never talk again, I think I'll be okay with that too.Because sometimes the quietest goodbyes are the ones we never actually say.

Sometimes people don’t leave because of a fight, they just slowly become strangers. And honestly, the goodbyes we never get to say are sometimes the ones that stay with us the longest. This felt really real. 🤍
