“The Great Netflix Crisis: What Am I Even Watching?” 😭🍿

Anonymous2 hours agoWrite Freely474 words

I genuinely believe choosing what to watch is one of the most difficult decisions of modern life.

People talk about choosing a career, choosing a life partner, choosing where to live… but nobody talks about the emotional damage caused by opening Netflix, YouTube, or Instagram and having absolutely no idea what you want to watch. You sit down. You get comfortable.

You grab a snack. You open an app.And suddenly your brain forgets every single piece of entertainment you have ever enjoyed.

You scroll.“Hmm, no.”Scroll.“Already watched that.”Scroll.“Too serious.”

Scroll.“Too boring.”Scroll.“I’ve seen this trailer seventeen times but somehow I still don’t know what the movie is about.”

Twenty minutes later, you are watching a random video titled something like “Top 10 Most Unexpected Things Found Inside Walls”.Why?Nobody knows.

Sometimes I spend more time choosing something than I actually spend watching it.The funniest part is that I already have a watchlist.

A HUGE one. There are movies on it that I added three years ago. Some of them have probably graduated from being movies to historical documents at this point.

Every time I see something interesting, I confidently tell myself, “I’ll watch this tonight.”Tonight arrives.I open my watchlist. And suddenly none of those movies look appealing.

It’s like my brain has a secret committee whose only job is to reject every available option. Then comes the most dangerous sentence:“Let’s just watch something short.”

That sentence has ruined countless evenings.Because “something short” somehow becomes a three-hour journey through YouTube Shorts. You watch one funny video.

Then another.Then another.Then somehow you’re watching a man restoring a 1970s toaster.

You don’t even care about toasters. But now you NEED to know whether the toaster works. At 1:47 a.m., you are emotionally invested in an appliance you’ve never seen before.

And don’t even get me started on watching something with other people.Choosing a movie with friends is basically international diplomacy. One person wants comedy.

Someone wants horror.Someone says, “Anything is fine.”This person is lying. The moment you choose something, they suddenly have seventeen objections.

“No, not that.”“Why?”“I don’t know, I just don’t feel like it.”“Okay, what do you want?”

“Anything.”And the cycle continues until everyone is tired enough to agree to something they don’t even want. The funniest thing is that after all this effort, someone eventually says:

“Guys, let’s just watch the same old movie.”And everyone agrees immediately.Of course.Because apparently the answer was sitting in front of us the entire time.

Maybe this is adulthood. Not paying bills. Not making important decisions.

Just staring at a screen for forty minutes trying to decide whether you want to watch a movie, a series, a documentary, a random interview, or a man restoring a toaster.

Honestly, I’m convinced the real entertainment isn’t what we watch. It’s the completely unnecessary struggle we go through before finally deciding.

And tomorrow?I’ll probably do it all over again.Because apparently I have learned absolutely nothing.

But at least I’ll have snacks.

When the evening is over and you still haven't decided what to watch, you
