The lift conversation
I was trapped in the lift with our manager. Mr. Krishnan for four minutes today. Usually I rehearse every sentence before speaking to him. terrified of sounding incompetent. But when the lift stopped, he signed and admitted he was nervous about presenting to the directors. I almost laughed because I had always imagined him incapable of feeling nervous bwe ended up discussing our worst presentation disasters until the lift restarted. I walked out feeling lighter . I had spent months treading authority as proof of confidence, forgetting that people can be competent and frightened simultaneously. Tomorrow I might finally ask him my question.

I love this so much. The way you always rehearse every sentence before talking to him because you are scared of sounding incompetent, I think everyone who has ever had a strict manager can relate to that anxiety. And then finding out that he was also nervous about his own presentation to the directors, it just shows that everyone is fighting their own battles no matter how senior they are. That moment where you both ended up sharing your worst presentation disasters in the lift is so wholesome, sometimes those trapped four minutes teach you more about a person than months of meetings.
Such a heartfelt story. Maybe he thought that you were his safe person. He trusted you enough to tell you about his worries. To me he sounds like a good person. You are lucky to have him as your Manager.
Being in the same life with my manager was my worst nightmare. Sharing a close space with a person of higher authority gave me jitters. But sometimes, we all realise that we are humans. Mr Krishnan must have trusted you a lot since he thought he could be vulnerable in your presence.
