The lunch I complained about
I complained about Amma's lemon rice again today. I have eaten it so often that even the smell sometimes annoys me. My colleague, who moved to Chennai last year, mentioned that she misses her mother's cooking and has forgotten how her favourite dish tastes. I went quite, looking at the lunchbox. I had almost left untreated. I called Amma during the break and asked how she made the tempering so fragrant. She explained it in exhausting detail. I rolled my eyes affectionately. Tonight, I packed tomorrow's lunch myself, hoping I could make it taste even half as good.

Sometimes we don’t realise the value of the little things until we imagine life without them. ❤️ The way a familiar dish can go from being an everyday annoyance to something you suddenly want to cherish is so beautiful. Amma’s lemon rice clearly carries more love than any recipe could ever explain. This was such a heartwarming read! 🥹
