The Months That Feel A Little Heavier
There is something about October that I can never properly explain.
Nothing is necessarily wrong. Life is still moving, people are still laughing, birthdays are still being celebrated, plans are still being made , and yet somewhere between the last warm evenings and the first cold mornings, a strange emptiness begins to settle in
Maybe it is the weather. Maybe it is the shorter days, the colder air, or the way evenings suddenly feel quieter. Or maybe these months simply make us notice things we were too busy to notice before.
October, November, December… they have a strange way of bringing old feelings back
You remember people you haven't spoken to in years. You think about places you haven't visited in a long time. Songs you had completely forgotten suddenly mean something again. Even ordinary things, like sitting near a window when it gets dark early, can make you feel nostalgic for a life you don't even know whether you actually miss.
And November has this particular sadness to it.
It feels like standing somewhere between what has already ended and what hasn't happened yet.
Maybe that's why we start thinking so much during these months. About the year that passed. About the things we wanted to do but didn't. About the people who stayed, the people who left, and the versions of ourselves that quietly disappeared somewhere along the way
December is supposed to be about celebrations, isn't it? New clothes, lights, gatherings, plans for the new year , but underneath all of that there is often this tiny feeling of loneliness that nobody really talks about
You look at the calendar and realise another year is almost gone.
And suddenly, all the time you thought you had feels like something you already spent
I don't think this sadness always needs a reason. Maybe we don't have to name every feeling to make it valid.
Some emotions arrive quietly, stay for a while, and leave without giving us an explanation , perhaps winter just makes us softer
We slow down. We stay indoors a little longer. We notice the cold on our hands, the silence after everyone goes to sleep, the warmth of a cup of tea, the light coming through the curtains in the afternoon.
And in that quiet, we hear ourselves a little more clearly.
Maybe that's why these months feel so heavy. Not because they are sad, but because they give us enough silence to finally feel everything we've been too distracted to feel.
So if October, November, or December ever makes you feel strangely empty, even when everything seems fine, I hope you know you're not necessarily missing something
Maybe you're just remembering.
Maybe you're just growing.
Maybe you're simply standing at the end of another year, looking back at everything you've carried, and realising how much of it you never had the words for.
Some seasons don't come to change our lives
Some just come to remind us that we have one
When these colder months make you feel a quiet emptiness, do you
