The Problem With Getting Attached

I think my biggest problem is that I get attached to people without even realizing it. It starts with something so small, like waiting for their texts, remembering the little things they tell me, or smiling at my phone because of one stupid message. And before I know it, they’ve become a part of my everyday routine.
The worst part is that I never show how attached I actually am. I act normal, reply casually, and pretend that I don’t care that much. But deep down, I notice everything.
The change in their tone, the late replies, the conversations that suddenly feel different. I notice when the energy isn’t the same anymore, even when nobody says anything.
And honestly, I hate that about myself sometimes. Because how can someone become so important to me when I don’t even know what I mean to them?
I keep telling myself not to expect anything from anyone. Not to get too comfortable, not to depend on someone’s presence, and definitely not to let one person decide my
mood. But somehow, I always end up doing exactly that.Maybe it’s because when I care about someone, I care genuinely. I remember their favourite things, ask about the smallest
details, and worry about them even when they don’t know it. I don’t need grand gestures. Sometimes, all I want is consistency. A little reassurance. The
feeling that I’m not the only one trying to keep a connection alive. But attachment is scary because people can become strangers while still being the same people you once told everything to. One day, you’re talking about everything, and the next, you’re wondering whether texting them would make you seem desperate.
So I start pulling away before they can leave. I convince myself that I don’t need anyone, even when all I really want is for someone to stay without making me question my place in their life.Maybe healing means learning that loving someone doesn’t require losing yourself in them. That a late reply isn’t always rejection, and distance doesn’t always
mean you’re unwanted.I just hope that one day I can care about someone without constantly being afraid of losing them. I want to enjoy someone’s presence without preparing myself for their absence.Because honestly, I don’t think I’m afraid of getting attached.
I’m afraid of being the only one who does.
Sometimes, we’re not afraid of attachment; we’re afraid of caring deeply for someone who might never care for us the same way. This felt painfully relatable. ❤️
