The Screenshot

AnonymousSep 16, 2026Write Freely97 words

She accidentally sent him a screenshot of their old conversation.

He replied:

“Why are you looking at this?”

She said, “I was cleaning my gallery.”

He laughed.

“Still thinking about me?”

“No.”

“Then why keep the screenshot?”

She didn't answer.

Because the screenshot wasn't from their conversation.

It was from the day he told her he was proud of her.

That was the one sentence she had never heard from anyone else.

She deleted the screenshot that night.

Not because she stopped caring.

Because she finally realized she didn't need someone else's words to believe in herself.

What an inspiring story. I used to love hearing from others that I had been nailing it, but now I do not need anybody to tell me so. I do not need validation, just like our protagonist.

Beautifully written. The ending is especially powerful—the screenshot becomes a symbol of learning to give yourself the validation you once needed from someone else. 🤍
