The Things She Could Never Say

She was the kind of girl who overthought everything.

A simple “okay” could make her wonder if someone was upset with her. A delayed reply could turn into a hundred different possibilities in her head. Sometimes, she didn’t even know why she was crying. She would just be sitting quietly, doing something completely normal, and suddenly her eyes would fill with tears.

And the hardest part?

She never really knew where to go with all those feelings.

Whenever she felt sad, she wanted to go to her parents. She wanted to sit beside them and say, “I’m not okay today.” She wanted to tell them what was going on in her head without having to explain every little thing.

But she stopped herself.

Because the last few times she had tried to share something, she had felt judged instead of understood.

“Why do you think so much?”

“You're making a big deal out of nothing.”

“Other people have bigger problems.”

So slowly, she learned to keep things to herself.

She would wipe her tears before anyone noticed. She would lock

her room, breathe normally, and pretend everything was fine when someone asked.

People thought she was quiet.

They didn't know she had entire conversations in her head every night.

They didn't know how badly she wanted someone to simply listen without correcting her feelings.

She wasn't asking her parents to solve everything.

Sometimes, she just wanted them to say,

“I don't completely understand what you're feeling, but I'm here. Tell me.”

And maybe that's all an overthinking girl really needs sometimes—

not advice, not judgment, not comparisons…

just a safe place to finally stop pretending she's okay.

This one deserves a gentle comment: Sometimes people don’t need their feelings fixed or explained; they just need someone safe enough to listen, stay, and remind them they’re not alone.

This is so true. Presence means more than advice. 🥹🫶🏻
