The unplanned celebration

I didn't get the promotion I had worked towards for months. I spent the entire journey home rehearsing how I would explain the disappointment 😥 to my family. When I opened the door 🚪, my friends were waiting with takeaway food and a handmade certificate declaring me " Employee of the Week for Surviving Absolute Nonsense". I laughed so hard that I nearly cried. They didn't tell me the rejection was a blessing or pretend it didn't matter . They simply sat with me while I complained about everything. For the first time that day. I stopped feeling like a failure. I was disappointed ☹️, but I wasn't disappointed in myself alone.
