Things we leave behind

Sometimes, we spend so much time trying to build a beautiful future that we forget to appreciate the little things making our present meaningful. We keep waiting for the perfect day, the perfect opportunity, or the perfect version of ourselves before allowing ourselves to be happy. Somewhere along the way, we forget that life is happening right now.
I used to believe that happiness would arrive when everything finally fell into place. When I achieved my goals, when my family understood me without explanations, when my worriesdisappeared, and when I became the person I had always imagined myself to be. I thought I needed to accomplish something extraordinary before I could feel proud of myself.
But life has a funny way of teaching us lessons through ordinary moments. One evening, after a particularly exhausting day, I sat near my window with a cup of tea.
There was nothing special about that evening. My responsibilities were still waiting for me, my problems hadn’t magically disappeared, and
tomorrow promised another long list of things to worry about.Yet, for a few minutes, everything felt peaceful. The cool breeze entered through the window. Somewhere in the distance, someone was playing an old song. I could hear people talking in their homes, a pressure cooker whistling, and a child laughing on the street. These sounds were so familiar that I had stopped noticing them. That evening, I realised how much beauty we overlook while searching for something extraordinary.
We forget to appreciate the people who check on us without a reason, the meals prepared with love, the familiar voices that make a house feel like home, and the friends who can make us laugh when we feel like giving up on the day.We also forget to appreciate ourselves. We are often our own harshest critics. We remember every mistake, every embarrassing moment, every opportunity we missed, and every time we weren’t good enough. But how often do we acknowledge the days we kept going despite feeling exhausted? How often do we congratulate ourselves for trying again after disappointment? Not every victory deserves applause.
Sometimes, getting through a difficult day is an achievement in itself.I’ve started believing that growing up isn’t simply about becoming stronger or moreindependent. It is also about becoming softer towards yourself and more understanding towards others.People are fighting battles we know nothing about. Someone’s silence might be exhaustion. Someone’s anger might hide disappointment. Someone’s repeated questions might simply be their way of expressing love.
Of course, understanding others doesn’t mean accepting every hurtful behaviour. It means learning to respond with wisdom instead of allowing every difficult moment to steal our peace.
Life is uncertain. People change, circumstances change, and even the places we once considered permanent can become memories.
Perhaps that’s why we should stop postponing happiness.Call your parents. Sit with your grandparents. Eat your favourite meal without feeling guilty about enjoying it. Watch the sunset. Laugh at silly jokes. Forgive yourself for being imperfect. You don’t need to have your entire life figured out to appreciate the life you already have.
One day, we might look back and realise that the moments we desperately wanted to rush through were the very moments we wished we could experience once again.
So, while we are busy becoming who we want to be, let’s not forget to enjoy being who we are. After all, life isn’t only about the extraordinary things we achieve. Sometimes, its greatestgifts are hidden in the ordinary moments we almost fail to notice.
When life feels overwhelming, do you focus on
Your vote is final.
I also think that happiness come when are family except us when we are cheater goal etc but in reality happiness came when you start accepting yourself.even if you are doing less but you are satisfied
This is so true and beautifully written. We are always waiting for that perfect day, perfect opportunity, or perfect version of ourselves to finally allow ourselves to be happy. I used to think the same, that happiness will come only after I achieve all my goals and everything falls into place. But you are right, life is happening right now in these small ordinary moments. We forget to appreciate the little things that are actually making our present meaningful. Really needed to read this today, thank you for sharing this reminder.
You said it so well. We keep waiting for the perfect day, perfect opportunity, perfect version of ourselves to be happy, and forget that life is happening right now. This really hit me, needed to read this today. Thank you for sharing.
