What if I woke up as a complete stranger?.

Anonymous1 hour agoWrite Freely100 words

I woke up this morning, looked in the mirror, and immediately particularly panicked. I didn't recognize the person staring back. Different face, different room, different clothes, and apparently a completely different life. My phone has 47 notifications, but none of the names meant anything.

I tried calling Mom, then remembered this wasn't my phone. Even worse, I had no idea where the bathroom was.

After thirty minutes of detective work, I discovered a wallet, an office ID, and a grocery list containing "milk, eggs, and toothpaste".

Honestly, whoever I had become seemed responsible.

I wasn't sure whether to panic or admire them.

I like how this starts with a funny, almost absurd situation but slowly turns into something much more unsettling. The detail about having 47 notifications and recognising none of the names makes the idea feel surprisingly real—you can have an entire life around you, yet suddenly feel completely disconnected from it. And the grocery list with something as ordinary as “milk, eggs, and toothpaste” is such a good detail because it reminds you that this stranger had a normal routine, responsibilities, and a life that existed before you woke up in it. The contrast between something so ordinary and such a strange situation makes the whole concept really interesting.
