Why Do We Have A Favourite Everything?

Have you ever noticed how we all have a favourite version of almost everything?

A favourite pen that somehow writes better than every other pen. A specific cup that makes chai taste better for absolutely no logical reason. One particular side of the bed that feels more comfortable. A song that you listen to a hundred times without getting bored.

And the funny thing is, most of the time, our favourites aren't even objectively better.

There are probably ten other pens sitting somewhere in the house, but somehow you still search for that one.

Maybe it's not really about the object.

Maybe it's about the tiny feeling attached to it.

I have this habit of getting weirdly attached to random things, not expensive things, not necessarily beautiful things either. Sometimes it's something completely ordinary that I've been using for years.

And if someone asks, "Why do you like this one so much?" I genuinely don't have an answer.

It's just my favourite.

Even with food, it's strange. You can have exact same dish from two different places, made with almost same ingredients, and somehow one taste completely different, Is it actually better, or have we just decided that it is?

And what about songs?

Sometimes we don't even like a song because of the lyrics. We like it because of the version we heard first, the time we discovered it, or simply because it became our song during a particular phase of life.

Same with places.

There can be hundred cafe's in a city, but you'll keep going back to the same one. Maybe the coffe isn't even the best there. Maybe you just like the corner table, the lightning, the music, the fact that you already know what you're going to order.

It's funny how personal preference can be.

Something completely ordinary to one person can be their favourite thing in the world.

So now I'm curious-

What's one completely random thing that is your favourite for absolutely no logical reason?

A mug? A song? A snack? A place? A particular dress? A random smell?

And if someone ask you why, would you actually have an answer?

Or would you just say

" I don't know I just like it."

And honestly, I think those random favourites say more about us than we realise. Maybe the things we choose without a reason are sometimes the ones that feel the most like us
