Why Does Packing For A Trip Feel Like Preparing For A New Life?
Packing for a trip should be simple
You're going away for a few days, so you take a few outfits, some basic things, put everything in a bag and leave , At least that's how it sounds in theory
In reality, packing somehow turns into a full investigation into every possible situation that could happen while you're away 😭
You start with the basics
A few clothes
Some toiletries
Chargers
Shoes
Easy
Then suddenly you start thinking
What if it gets cold?
What if it rains?
What if I want to change?
What if I spill something?
What if I suddenly decide to dress completely differently?
And before you know it, you've packed enough clothes for three different versions of the trip
Then comes the “just in case” section
Just in case I need this
Just in case I need that
Just in case something happens that has probably never happened to me before And somehow, the things you pack “just in case” are usually the things you never touch
Meanwhile, the one thing you actually needed is sitting at home because you were too busy packing five unnecessary alternatives 😭
There is also something very strange about choosing outfits for a trip, Suddenly every piece of clothing in your cupboard becomes a possibility
You haven't worn that shirt in six months, but suddenly you're convinced this is its moment
That one dress you were unsure about?
Definitely taking it
The shoes that hurt after twenty minutes?
Somehow they're coming too And then you end up standing in front of an open suitcase surrounded by clothes, wondering how this became your life
Safar teen din ka hota hai, packing aisi lagti hai jaise hamesha ke liye ghar chhod rahe ho 😭
And just when you think you're finally done, someone asks
“Did you pack everything?”
Worst question ever
Because now you're going to open the suitcase again
Check the charger
Check the documents
Check the clothes
Check everything
Then close it
Then five minutes later wonder whether you actually packed the charger
So you open it again
There is also that weird moment right before leaving when the suitcase is finally closed Suddenly you feel like you've achieved something
You sit there looking at the bag like it contains your entire personality
And maybe that's because packing isn't only about taking things with you
You're also imagining the trip before it even happens
You imagine what you'll wear
Where you'll go
What you'll eat
Which pictures you'll take
What the weather will be like
Whether you'll actually follow the plan or completely change it once you arrive
Maybe that's why packing takes so long
We're not just preparing our luggage
We're mentally preparing for all the little possibilities of the trip
And honestly, I think that's half the fun. Until you reach your destination and realise you packed six outfits but forgot the one thing you actually needed 😭 Maybe the real travel tradition isn't packing light
It's packing too much, forgetting something important, and promising yourself you'll be smarter next time
Only to do exactly the same thing on the next trip.
When packing for a trip, do you
