Wish I Could Unmeet So Many People

Anonymous1 hour agoWrite Freely566 words

Sometimes I genuinely wish there was a way to go back in time and simply not meet certain people not because I hate them not because I want anything bad for them I just wonder how different life would’ve been if our paths had never crossed in the first place.

There are people you meet and think, “I’m glad I know you.”

And then there are people you meet and, years later, think, “Why did I ever let this person into my life?”

The strange part is, you usually don’t know which one someone will become when you first meet them.

A stranger can become an important part of your life. Someone you trust can eventually become a lesson. Someone you thought would stay forever can become someone whose name you barely hear anymore.

And sometimes, it’s not even the person you miss you miss who you were before you met them

The version of yourself that didn’t overthink certain things The version that trusted more easily, the version that hadn’t experienced whatever that person eventually brought into your life. Maybe that’s why the idea of “unmeeting” someone feels so tempting.

But then again, if I could actually go back, would I change everything?

Because even the people we wish we had never met can leave us with something better boundaries, a clearer idea of what we want, or simply the understanding that not everyone deserves access to us.

“Kuch log zindagi mein rehne ke liye nahi, sirf ek sabaq ban kar aane ke liye milte hain.”

Still…

If you were given a chance to erase one person from your entire life story not because of revenge, just so you never had to know them at all

Would you do it?

But maybe the bigger question is, would I really want to erase them?

Because sometimes I think about how different I might have been without certain people, and I honestly don’t know if that version of me would have been better or just different maybe I would still make the same mistakes, just with different people. Maybe some meetings are random, and some become turning points without us realising it at the time there are conversations I wish I had never had, places I wish I had never gone to, and people I wish I had never trusted but, there are also things I learned from all of it that I probably wouldn’t have understood otherwise.

Still, if I could go back to that very first moment before meeting them, knowing everything I know now…

I wonder if I would still say hello.

Or would I just walk past them like we were complete strangers?

“Kaash kuch mulaqatein sirf ittefaq rehti, kahani banne tak baat na pahunchti.”

Maybe that's the weirdest part about people we never know which stranger will become a memory, which friendship will become a lesson, or which meeting will completely change the way we see things.

And sometimes, I think the real wish isn't to unmeet someone maybe it's simply to go back and tell our younger selves:

“You don't have to give everyone a place in your life.”

Some people can remain strangers.

Some doors are better left unopened.

And some stories probably didn't need to happen at all.

But then again…

If you could go back knowing exactly how everything would end, would you still choose to meet them?

Knowing how it all ends, would you still choose to meet someone who will eventually hurt you
