And it went totally ok.
Genuinely, a very wholesome human interaction that felt like an original experience to me.
I stopped by my local dive bar alone after a happy hour Halloween candy wine tasting with the girls. I was tipsy but didn’t quite feel like being alone in my apartment on a Friday night. I sat at the bartop and pulled out a book until I have someone to talk to besides the bartender.
First guy makes a comment about how I’m even able to read at a bar in such dim lighting. Something someone older would point out.
We also chat about movies, his wife and kids. what states we’ve lived in, what we do for work before I mention the movie “The History of Concrete” was playing right next door.
We both have been wanting to see it and looked at each other telepathically agreeing that we should catch the next showing.
It was a movie I knew I wouldn’t watch unless I had someone to watch it with and here is this opportunity to watch it with a random stranger!
Totally platonic, at least for me as we stood outside to debrief a little after the movie ended and exchange letterboxd usernames before we parted ways.
I live for these moments that continously add to my lore and character development. What would you call these moments? Is there a specific word or phrase you would call this type of human experience?
A stranger asks if you want to see a movie with them. You
Your vote is final.
