In my previous article I wrote about my frustration towards various fashion trends of 2000s. While looking through the scrapbook of 2000s, I was revisiting the memories which reminded me of some of the trends that I loved. Hence I decided to dive into the trends of 2000s that I adored.

The first trend I would like to highlight is jackets. Now this was a fashion article that existed before 2000s, but 2000s made it versatile. Leather jackets and denim jackets were at the pinnacle of this trend, which still are considered classic today. In addition to these staples, new variants were added: Hoodies for casual meets, shrugs for day to day life, thin jackets for light breeze, long sheugs meant just to add another layer to the outfit, netted jackets for an accessory, so on and so forth.

As a teenager I was in love with this trend. I was overall a lover of jackets and this trend felt like a teenage dream in reality. Another trend that Disney girls made popular was cropped jackets made of different fabrics. Seeing Disney actress wearing various types of shrugs and jackets, young girls like me quickly added these articles to the wardrobe.

I loved that time how jackets and shrugs were used with variety of outfits. Denims with striped tshirt and long shrug had been the uniform for 'IT' girls. It was the perfect for fall season and it still makes rounds every year in October month.

Another aesthetic was wearing a structured jacket with dresses or skirts. This was an interesting take on fashion. Because dresses and skirts would bring feminine elements while structured jackets would add a masculine touch. The result was a grunge look that was popular during parties. Often celebrities would pair it with cowboy hat and boots to complete the look while regular girls would use ballet flats or sandals.

While layering was a trend that I bashed earlier, jackets and shrugs had been the pieces which created a clean and chic look while layering. Layering with jackets and shrugs was the safest way to following the layering trend without making it look overbearing.

I want to especially highlight the net shrugs and jackets. The girls who were not happy to combine structured jackets with skirt and dresses, gravitated towards net shrugs and jackets. These shrugs and jackets had intricate patterns making them look feminine. This was the girls would be able to join the trend of jackets and dress/skirts and would also maintain the feminine persona of the overall look.

The fashion of 2000s had its own charm. Though it had more problems than merits, it still had a special place in the fashion history. As a millennial, I still have a lot of jackets and shrugs that I bought in 2000s. I still unapologetically incorporate them with my outfits even today. Because they are still the articles that gave me joy.

Are there any millennials in the house who would like to add more? I would love to hear your take.

When looking back at the fashion of the 2000s, do you
