The Circle of Delayed Salaries
The day my salary got delayed and I had only 340 rupees in my PhonePe. It was tournament time. I was working from 7 AM to 5:30 PM every day. Giving chest numbers, checking IDs, handling parents who were shouting. Ma'am had said payment will come on 15th. I was waiting because my room rent was 3500 in Shimla and owner was asking daily.
On 15th I messaged Ma'am in the morning - Good morning Ma'am, payment? She replied at night - next week. I waited till Wednesday next week, then I called accounts sir. He said Ma'am will tell. I called Ma'am again, she said talk to accounts. I was just going in circles.
I had exactly 340 rupees left. I remember because I checked it like 10 times a day. I stopped going out with friends. One day my friend said chal chai peete hain, 20 rupees only. I said mera fast hai. But actually I didn't have money. I was eating only one Maggi a day. I didn't want to ask money from home because I am 24 years old, how can I ask Papa that I am working full day but have no money to eat?
One day I went to buy a notebook for 40 rupees. I tried to pay and my card declined. Shopkeeper looked at me weirdly. I said network issue hai and I came out fast. I sat on a bench outside the shop and I wanted to cry there only.
On 18th of next month at 7:42 PM, I was standing at bus stand. Phone vibrated. Message - Your account credited with Rs. 8000. I stared at it for 2 minutes. I didn't feel happy, I felt angry and tired. I wanted to write a big message to Ma'am - Do you know what I went through? But I just wrote Thank you Ma'am, received. Because I know next month I need the same job. That month taught me one
