Mystery uncovered

Mohit woke up early in the morning. He had slept for hardly 3 hours that night. What he had seeing the earlier night could not keep him relaxed. His neighbour had warned him about the lake and today he wanted to find out the truth.

Mohit visited his elderly neighbour. He narrated his entire experience from seeing the couple, the disappearance of the couple from the lake, then seeing them at the backseat of his car and sudden disappearance. Mohit asked, " I remember earlier you had told me to not to visit the lake at night. I assumed it was just for precautions but now I knew the reason why you had told me that. If you know anything about this occurrence I request you to please share the story with me".

Mr Joshi looked tense. He put down the newspaper aside and closed his eyes, " I told you not to go there. But you youngsters do not listen to us oldies. See what happened. Have you learnt your lesson yet?"

Mohit pleaded him to tell him the truth. Mr Joshi narrated, "a few years ago there was a young man and a woman. They were madly in love with each other. Their intentions were pure. They wanted to get married. They did what any sensible couple does - they informed their families about their plans. Unfortunately both families did not agree to their holy union. The families strongly opposed. The couple tried to elope but they were caught. The girl's family had banned her from leaving the house. They had found a groom and she was to be married very soon to him. She was not ready for this marriage because she had already chosen her life partner. As a last attempt to elope the couple met at the lake. Knowing that they could not be together in the life, they decided to unite in their death. The jumped into the lake and committed suicide. This was captured on the cctv camera. Even till date their dead bodies have not been recovered from the lake. But the story does not end here".

Mr Joshi took a pause and an opportunity to take a sip of tea. Mohit waited for him to continue, "people say that after the sunset they appear at the lake. They sit on a bence and blankly stare at the lake. They do not harm anyone but want their story to be known. They want to share their tragic love story with the world and that is why they appear and disappear. This is why I had been telling you not to visit the lake after the sunset. I should have been more specific with you so that this entire incident could have been easily avoided. Anyway now that you have experienced yourself I believe you will stop going there in the evening".

Mohit had now learnt the truth about the incident from the previous night. He felt sorry for the couple. Yet he made a promise to himself to never visit the lake after the sunset as he did not want to come face to face with the paranormal again.

When Mohit told me the story in the cafe I was shocked that my friend had seen the spirits in person. I wondered about all the films which show that the lovers die together, but none had the shown what happens afterwards. Mohit uncovered this mystery in the most chilling manner possible. This story reminded me of a quote that I had read several years ago, "Some love stories have ghosts in them".
