There is a particular kind of hunger that comes with growing up poor. It is not the hunger that comes from empty stomach, although you may know that one too. It is a deeper hunger. The kind of hunger that develops when you watch people live lives you cannot imagine for yourself.
A hunger that grows when you see things you cannot afford, enter places you do not belong, and listen to conversations where money is not a problem.
It is the hunger of becoming something more than your circumstances permitted you to be. You see it in a child who promises himself his family will never struggle like this again. You see it in young graduates who believes that education will change everything . You see it in the young man who studies the lives of successful people, saves their pictures, watches their interviews and quietly convinces himself that one day, somehow he will sit at the same table with them.
You see it in a young woman who refuses to allow her background to put her back to the ground. She wants more than survival, she wants choices, she wants freedom.
She wants to walk into a supermarket, pick what she likes, pays without check her balance whether it'll survive the month.
