My nephew is currently in grade 5. He studies with one of the best schools of Mumbai. One day I was speaking with him, "when are your Diwali vacations going to start?"
" I don't know. We have not received any official notice yet. Maybe it will start just a couple of days before Diwali," he responded.
"What do you mean these have not been announced? These topics do not require so much of discussion. In my school we used to know right at the first day of school when our exams were going to be and when the holidays would have been," I was surprised at the mismanagement at one of the best schools. While he got upset with me because I questioned his school management. But then I thought this is something that would make my simple government aided school better than his luxurious school.
In my school on the first day itself be used to get a school activity book. This book would have the dedicated prayer for that grade (we used to have different prayers each year). It would also have the pledge. It would contain the time table for the school. It would show us when would be our exams. This book would give us the thoughtful insights of when we will have holidays and vacations. This book would also have the provision for parent and teacher communication. One section would be for the notes from the parents while one section would be for notes from the teachers. Even the absent notes would be included in the same book.
This school activity book would serve as the single book which would guide us from the first day of the school till the last day. Every information was carefully verified. The only change that would take place when the board exams would get announced because the time table for them would never be fixed. Other than that the school activities would be decided right from the beginning and would get planned as per the dates mentioned in the book.
Not only my nephew's school but also what I have heard from my friends about their children's school I feel that my simple school was way ahead of time as compared with these big luxurious schools. Everything was well planned and well managed. There was little room left for uncertainty because of the availability of school activity book to us. Students, parents, and teachers were aware of what had been lying ahead of them. This would give the much needed head start for each stakeholder to prepare themselves for the upcoming activities. Be it examinations, sports tournaments, or school events, the school activity book would provide us the exact date when these would begin hence give us adequate time for the preparation.
The simplicity and the grit from the management is what made my school stand out in front of the modern schools. Even today I still feel that our school management was ahead of time in order to make us better prepare for the entire school year. And that is what makes my school special.

Nowadays I feel the so called modern schools lack the basic management. Everything appears distorted. Noone knows what is going on. In my days classrooms used to be chaotic now the school management is chaotic. I learnt without a penny till 10th and now with millions in fees the schools are disappointing
It's crazy how unpredictable school life used to feel during board exams. One single notice on the board and everything would instantly shift into high-gear mode! 📚 The way this captures that quiet chaos before the exam season brings back so many memories. Wonderfully written!
