I found a post it on the door in a stairwell that only I normally take that felt like it was meant to find me at this exact moment in time.
During this transitional season of my life, I have little to no time to check in with myself when I have so many other things to worry about.

  1. Moving out at the end of the month
  2. A busy quarter before the holidays start rolling in
  3. A friend is coming into town to visit
  4. Finding time to enjoy Halloween festivites

I am actively shoving down the feeling of overwhelm to deal with it later. And here is a literal note handwritten by a stranger who is feeling the exact same way. To answer their question: to reach the point of overwhelm is already signaling enough for it to consume our thoughts. And our thoughts generate or deplete energy. To question and doubt ourselves during a time of overwhelm will only drain.
I keep telling myself, once I move and settle in and get through this month I will have time to deal with this overwhelm. But by then, it will be too late. I did not process the stress and carried on because we’ll always find more things to worry about.

I thought this person’s handwriting was beautiful yet their message felt like a cry for help to get their overwhelming thoughts out of their head and onto something more permanent. Like a message they didnt want themselves to forget about so they write reminders down on post its and stick it onto their mirror as they brush their teeth or take it with them in their notebook, only to be dropped and left in a hollow emergency staircase that only people who want to be left alone in silence even just for a few flights of stairs would relate to and internalize a message like this.

I hope this person knows they are not alone. And their thoughts about questioning themselves and being overwhelmed is a very real human experience that I hope they can overcome. After all, this helped me take this mindful moment and reflect on my own internal struggles in a healthy way.

I’m thankful to have found this message.
