If the decade of 2000s has to be remembered and forgotten for something, it has to be the statement belt. And that belt has to be this specific belt which looks like medals had been put together on wide leather strap. This type of statement belt was everywhere in 2000s. As if it had conquered the entire world. There was not a single safe place where this belt had not taken over. This belt itself had gained the status of a celebrity.

Let there be any photo of female celebrity in 2000s. You would notice how prominent this belt had always been. Every celebrity would wear it at every outing. Even when the celebrities were at the galas or events they would still continue to wear it. The belt had become so mainstream that it started to look redundant.

At that time I was a teenager and I loved this trend. It was mainly because I am very fond of belts in general. Visible or not visible I like to have belts in my wardrobe and I carefully choose them to suit my style. During that decade so many varieties of statement belt were available and hence at that point of time it felt like a teenage dream come true. Yet while wearing them I was careful of their usage and unlike the celebrities I had not worn the belt to undermine its basic function.

Now I did not have a problem with the belt. In fact I still have a lot of statement belt in my wardrobe and I continue to use them. But I had the problem with how these belt were used in the decade of 2000s. That time they had no function. They were not necessarily even worn at the waist. They would be one on any part of the body. They were worn without any purpose. They had made it felt as if without the statement belt any outfit would look incomplete and hence it was mandatorily worn.

I completely understand how important a belt is. Belt is an accessories that can make the outfit look elevated. If a statement belt is used correctly with a dress then it looks elegant and formal. This was not the case with the statement belts from the decade of 2000s. Hence the belts the way they had worn at that point of time would look out of place and would degrade the outfit.

While I understand that the decade of 2000 was completely about self expression. A lot of public figures had used various clothing and accessories to express themselves. Yet, looking back I believe all the celebrities would be embarrassed seeing themselves making horrible fashion choices in their youth during 2000s. They would cringe while looking at their younger selves wearing jeans and statement belts to the events were all cameras were aimed at them and they were seen by millions of viewers worldwide.

Some trends need to stay in the past. According to me, the dysfunctional statement belts of 2000s should stay where they belong and should not return to the fashion scene ever again.

When looking back at a past fashion trend, you
