At exactly 2:17 a.m., someone knocked on Ananya’s bedroom door.Three times.Knock. Knock. Knock. She opened her eyes immediately.
For a few seconds, she lay completely still, staring at the ceiling. The house was silent. Her parents were asleep downstairs. Her younger brother was away at college. There was no reason anyone should be standing outside her room. Then came another knock.Knock. Knock.“Mom?”No answer.Ananya reached for her phone.2:17 a.m.
She switched on the bedside lamp and looked toward the door.Nothing unusual. She slowly walked toward it.“Who is it?”Silence. She placed her hand on the doorknob.
Then her phone vibrated.A notification appeared on the screen.Unknown Number: Don’t open the door.Ananya froze. Her heart began beating faster. She stared at the message.Another one arrived.Unknown Number: Whatever you hear, don’t open it.
She stepped away from the door. For the next thirty seconds, nothing happened. Then a voice came from the other side. Her voice.“Ananya…”She stopped breathing.“Ananya, open the door.”It sounded exactly like her.
Same voice.Same tone.Even the tiny hesitation she had whenever she spoke softly. She backed away. Her phone vibrated again.Unknown Number: It knows you’re awake.Ananya immediately called her mother. The phone rang.
Once.Twice.Three times.No answer.She tried her father.Nothing.The voice outside became louder.“Ananya, please.”She covered her mouth.Then the doorknob moved.
Slowly.Someone was trying to open the door. She ran to the window. Her room was on the first floor. She could climb down if necessary, but the ground below was several feet away.
She pulled the curtains aside. And froze. There was someone standing in the garden.A woman.Looking directly at her window.Ananya couldn’t see her face clearly, but she could see the white dress she was wearing.
The woman raised one hand. And waved.Ananya stumbled backward. Her phone vibrated again.Unknown Number: Look behind you.She didn’t.She couldn’t.Every instinct told her not to.
But then she heard breathing. Not from outside. From inside her room.Ananya slowly turned around.Nobody was there. Her wardrobe stood against the wall. Her study table. Her bed.Nothing else. Then she noticed something she had never seen before.
A narrow door.Between the wardrobe and the wall. She stared at it.Her room had always been like this. She knew every corner.Every crack in the paint.Every piece of furniture. There had never been a door there.
Yet now there it was.A small wooden door with an old brass handle. Her phone vibrated.Unknown Number: That’s where it came from.Ananya’s fingers trembled. She typed:Who are you?The reply came immediately.
Someone who made the same mistake you’re about to make. She stared at the strange door. Then another message appeared.Do not open it.The knocking on her bedroom door suddenly stopped.Complete silence.
Complete silence.Ananya waited. One minute.Two.Nothing.She slowly approached the strange door. The brass handle looked ancient.Dust covered the wooden surface.
But there was something else.A photograph had been taped to the door.Ananya pulled it off.Her hands went cold.It was a photograph of her family. Her parents. Her brother. And her.The picture had been taken in their living room.
Except there was one problem. The photograph was dated 1998.Ananya was born in 2007.She dropped it.Her phone vibrated.Unknown Number: Now you understand. She typed:Who is the woman outside? The answer took longer this time.
Then:Look at the photograph again.Ananya picked it up.She examined every face. Her father. Her mother. Her brother. Then she noticed the woman standing behind them.Half hidden near the staircase.
The same white dress. The same face. The woman from the garden.Ananya felt dizzy. She zoomed into the photograph. The woman was holding something.A small black object.A phone. And on the phone screen was a picture of Ananya.
Taken that night.Ananya dropped the photograph again.Suddenly, the strange door opened by itself.Just a few inches.Cold air rushed into the room. She stepped back. From inside came a faint sound.A ringtone. Her ringtone.
Her phone was in her hand.Yet the same ringtone was coming from behind the door. She shouldn’t have gone closer. But curiosity is sometimes stronger than fear. She opened the door. There was no room behind it.
Only a narrow staircase leading downward.Ananya switched on her phone flashlight. The staircase seemed endless. She took one step. Then another. At the bottom was a small room.A desk stood in the middle. On it were dozens of photographs.
All of Ananya.Sleeping.Studying.Eating.Walking to school.Sitting in the garden. Some were from years ago. Some were from the previous day.
And some were from moments earlier. One photograph showed Ananya standing in her bedroom.Looking at the staircase. The timestamp said:2:18 a.m.But her phone said 2:24.She picked up another photograph.
Her hands started shaking. It showed her opening the mysterious door.Behind her stood the woman in white.Ananya slowly turned around.Nobody was there. Her phone vibrated.Unknown Number: You shouldn’t have opened it.
She typed with trembling fingers:Where are you?The response appeared.Behind you.Ananya dropped the phone. She turned. The woman stood at the bottom of the staircase.
Her face was finally visible.Ananya screamed.Because the woman looked exactly like her.Not similar. Not resembling her.Exactly her.The woman smiled.“You finally found the door.”
Ananya couldn’t move.“What do you want?”The woman stepped closer.“I want my life back.”“What?”The woman pointed toward the photographs.“You’re living mine.”The lights went out.Ananya screamed again.
Then everything became silent. The next morning, Ananya’s mother opened her bedroom door.“Ananya?”The room was empty. The window was open. Her phone lay on the floor. There was no sign of her daughter.
Her mother called the police. They searched the house.Nothing.No footprints. No evidence. No mysterious door. The wall beside the wardrobe was completely normal.
But when the police officer examined Ananya’s phone, he found one new photograph. It had been taken at 2:17 a.m.It showed Ananya standing beside the wardrobe. And behind her stood another Ananya.
Both were smiling. The officer looked at the photograph for a long time. Then his phone vibrated.A message from an unknown number.Don’t look behind you.He slowly lowered the phone.Because from somewhere inside the empty house…
came three quiet knocks.Knock. Knock. Knock.
The night Ananya heard knocks, she found a hidden door. She should have
