The Pressure to Have It All Figured Out π€

There is a certain kind of pressure that comes with growing up, especially when you reach an age where everyone starts asking questions about your future. What are you studying? What do you want to become? Have you started earning? What's your next plan? Somehow, every simple question starts feeling like a reminder that you should already have everything figured out.
The truth is, most of us are still trying to understand ourselves. We are learning what we enjoy, what we are good at, what kind of life we want and
what actually makes us happy. Yet, somewhere along the way, we start believing that not having a clear plan means we are falling behind.
Social media makes this feeling even
stronger. You open your phone and see someone getting into their dream college, someone landing a job, someone travelling, and someone celebrating a milestone. You feel happy for them, but a small part of you starts wondering why your own life doesn't look as organised. You forget that you are comparing your everyday reality with little pieces of someone else's life.
I think we need to talk more about the
uncomfortable middle part of growing up. The part where you are trying, but nothing seems to be working quickly enough. The part where you change your mind about a career, start over after a disappointment, or realise that the path you imagined for yourself might not be the right one anymore.
Changing your direction doesn't mean you wasted your time. Sometimes, you need to try something before understanding that it isn't meant for you. Sometimes, you need to make mistakes to recognise what you need to learn. And sometimes, you simply need more time than you expected. We don't always get the results we want when we want them, and that can be frustrating, especially when we are genuinely trying our best.
There is also a difference between being lazy and being overwhelmed. From the outside, both might look like someone who isn't doing much. But one person might be avoiding responsibility, while another is trying to find the energy and confidence to begin again after several disappointments. We don't always know the complete story behind someone's progress.
I have started feeling that having your life figured out is not really a permanent achievement. Life changes, circumstances change, and the person you are today might want
something completely different a few years from now. What matters is having enough courage to keep learning and enough patience to accept that everything cannot happen at once.
Maybe instead of asking ourselves why we haven't achieved everything yet, we should ask whether we are taking even one small step towards the life we want. It doesn't have to be
impressive. It doesn't need to be something we announce to everyone. Sometimes, applying for one opportunity, learning a new skill, finishing a task we kept postponing, or simply trying again after a difficult week is progress too.
You are allowed to be ambitious without being cruel to yourself. You can want a better future while still
appreciating where you are today. You can admire someone else's journey without treating your own as a failure. Not everyone starts at the same place, has the same support, or gets the same opportunities.
Maybe growing up is partly about accepting that we can work towards a better future without knowing exactly how everything will turn out. We can make plans, change them when necessary, and give ourselves permission to learn along the way.
So, if you are currently in a phase where everyone seems to be moving forward while you are still figuring things out, remember that your life is not a competition with a deadline. You don't have to prove your progress to everyone, and you don't need to have all the answers just because someone asks you a question.
You don't need to have your entire life figured out today. You just need to keep giving yourself a chance to figure it out, one step at a time. π€
