The things I had forgotten

I found the box on a completely ordinary afternoon.
I was cleaning my room because I had been putting it off for weeks. There were old notebooks under my bed, clothes I hadn't worn in years, and a drawer full of things I couldn't remember keeping.
Then I noticed a small cardboard box pushed into the corner.
I pulled it out and wiped the dust from the top. I didn't remember putting it there.
Inside were things that looked unimportant at first.
An old friendship bracelet.
A movie ticket.
A tiny keychain. A birthday card with a badly drawn flower on it.
There was even a small piece of paper with a phone number written on it.
I smiled.
I couldn't remember whose number it was anymore.
I picked up the bracelet first. I remembered making it with a friend during school. At that time, we had promised that we would always stay close.
We didn't.
We eventually became busy with different lives and stopped talking regularly.
For a moment, I felt sad.
Then I found the movie ticket.
It reminded me of a day when my family had gone out together. Nobody had planned anything special. We had simply decided to watch a movie after lunch.
I remembered laughing the entire way home.
Next came the birthday card.
The handwriting was mine. It was a card I had made for my mother years ago. The message was simple, and the drawing was terrible.
I laughed when I saw it.
But I also realized something. Back then, I didn't worry about whether my drawing looked good. I didn't think about whether my words sounded perfect.
I simply made something because I wanted to make someone happy.I kept going through the box.
Every object belonged to a different version of me.
The girl who made bracelets.
The girl who loved collecting tickets.
The girl who wrote little notes. The girl who believed everything would stay the same forever.
I wasn't that girl anymore.
And surprisingly, I didn't feel bad about it.
I put everything back into the box, except the little handwritten note. I placed that one on my desk.
It wasn't because I wanted to live in the past.
It was because I wanted to remember something I had forgotten.
I had changed a lot.
Some things I had lost.
Some things I had learned. And some parts of me were still there, just quieter than before.
That evening, I put the box back under my bed.
But this time, I knew exactly what was inside.
Not useless old things. Pieces of a life I had already lived.
And a reminder that every version of me had helped create the person I am today.
When you find a box of old forgotten memories, do you
Your vote is final.
