There are some things we never say out loud. Not because they aren’t important, but because sometimes words feel too small for what we actually feel.
We say “I’m fine” when we aren’t. We say “it’s okay” when it isn’t. We laugh when something hurts, change the subject when someone gets too close, and pretend we don’t care because admitting that we do feels frightening.Growing up teaches us many things, but one of the strangest lessons is learning how much people can hide behind ordinary conversations.
Someone can be sitting beside you, laughing at the same joke, talking about school, complaining about homework, and still have an entire storm happening inside their head.
And sometimes, all they need is someone to notice. Not someone who asks a hundred questions. Not someone who immediately gives advice. Just someone who says, “You don’t have to pretend with me.”
I think we underestimate the power of small gestures.A message asking, “Did you reach home?”A friend saving you a seat.Someone remembering your favourite snack.
A teacher noticing that you’ve been unusually quiet.A person checking on you even after you said you were okay. These things may seem insignificant, but they can become the moments we remember for years.
Because life isn’t always changed by huge speeches or dramatic events. Sometimes, it is changed by one ordinary person making us feel seen on an ordinary day.
And perhaps that is what we should learn to do for one another.Look a little closer.Listen a little longer.Ask twice when someone says they’re fine.
Celebrate people when they succeed, but also sit beside them when they don’t.We all carry things that other people cannot see. Some are dreams, some are fears, some are regrets, and some are simply the exhaustion of trying to keep everything together. So maybe we should be gentler. Not because everyone is fragile, but because everyone is human.

There will always be things we don’t say.But if we create spaces where people feel safe enough to say them, perhaps the world becomes a little less lonely. And sometimes, being thereTell someone you appreciate them. Not because they’re leaving. But because they’re here. And maybe “here” is enough of a reason.
is enough.

When someone says they're fine, do you

it’s scary how much people actually hide behind “I’m fine”

I write about the little things we often ignore—the quiet thoughts, ordinary moments, and emotions that stay with us long after the day ends.
