The cold weather, a warm cup between your hands, sitting near a window, and that first sip when you’re still feeling a little sleepy… honestly, nothing beats it.
I don’t even need a big reason to make chai in winter. Sometimes I’ll say, “It’s cold, I need chai.” Then five minutes later I’ll make another one because apparently the first cup was just practice. 😭
And somehow, chai tastes better when you’re doing absolutely nothing. No work, no plans, no rushing anywhere. Just sitting quietly, watching the weather, scrolling through your phone, and taking small sips.
I feel like everyone has their own perfect winter chai. Some like it strong, some extra sweet, some with ginger, some with elaichi. And then there are people who can somehow drink chai at any time of the day
and still say, “Bas ek last cup.” 😂
For me, winter and chai just belong together.
And honestly, I think that’s what makes chai so special. It’s not really just about the taste. It’s about the feeling that comes with it.
There’s something comforting about holding a warm cup when your hands are cold. You take a sip, sit back, and for a few minutes you don’t feel like you need to be anywhere else.
Sometimes I even think winter makes people a little more social. Someone says, “Chai piyega?” and suddenly a completely normal evening turns into a long conversation. One cup becomes two, two becomes three, and somehow you end up discussing everything from random childhood memories to things you haven’t told anyone before. 😂
And then there are those quiet chai moments too.
You know those evenings when you’re sitting alone, the weather is cold, your favourite song is playing, and there’s a hot cup of chai beside you? Nothing extraordinary is happening, but somehow you feel peaceful.
Maybe that’s why I never really get tired of chai in winter.
And somehow, chai always tastes different depending on the mood.
If you’re happy, it becomes a celebration.
If you’re tired, it feels like a little reward.
If you’re stressed, it becomes an excuse to take a break.
And if you’re talking to someone you really enjoy talking to, that one cup can turn into hours without you even realizing it.
So now I’m curious about something else.
Who is that one person you’d happily sit with for hours, drinking chai and talking about absolutely everything? 👀☕
No pressure to name them. You can just describe them. Maybe it’s your best friend, a sibling, a parent, someone special, or even that one person you secretly wish would say, “Chai peene chalein?” 😭
Because sometimes, it’s not really the chai we’re waiting for.
It’s the person sitting across from us.
Cold weather outside, warm chai in your hands, and the right conversation can make an ordinary evening feel like a memory you’ll want to keep.
So… chai peene chalein? ☕❄️

When the weather turns cold and a warm cup of chai is in your hands, do you
