So many adventures couldn't happen today, so many songs we forgot to play. So many dreams coming out of the blue...
There is something almost painful about this song. It sounds beautiful when you first hear it, but underneath the melody is a feeling I think many of us understand. There is so much life we haven't lived yet. There are places I haven seen. Things I haven't tried . People I haven't met.
Songs I haven't discovered. And dreams I haven't even thought. Of yet. That is what makes the idea of growing older strange. When we 're children . growing up feels exciting. We can't wait to become adults because adulthood looks like freedom. Nobody is telling us when to sleep. Nobody is checking whether our homework is finished.
We imagine that being older means finally getting to do whatever we want. Then we actually grow up . Suddenly, freedom comes with bills. Dreams come with deadlines . And "I'll do it someday" becomes surprisingly easy to say, There are always reasons to postpone things. I'm too busy. I don't have enough money.
I need to focus on my career first. I'll travel next year. I'll travel next year. I'll learn that skill later. I'll start that hobby. When life becomes less stressful. And somehow,"later" keeps moving further away. That's why the line about all the adventures that couldn't happen today hits differently.
It's a not necessarily about regretting everything . We didn't do. It's about realizing that time doesn't wait for our plans to become convenient. And then comes the part. "I want to be forever young." I don't think being forever young means refusing to grow older.Growimg older is inevitable. Your face changes.Your priorities change.
Your responsibilities increase. People you once saw every day slowly become people. You have to schedule a call with. That's life. But I think there is another kind of aging that scares me more. Losing curiosity. Losing excitement. Becoming so practical that everything has to have a purpose.
Stopping yourself from trying some because you're worried you'll look foolish. Laughing less because you're too concerned about how you appear. Thinking that dreams are childish because adulthood is supposed to be serious. That is the kind of again I don't want.
I want to grow older without becoming completely predictable to myself. I want to still hear a song and feel something. I want to still hear a song and feel something. I want to still get excited about going somewhere l"ve never been. I want to still make stupid decisions occasionally - not destructive once. Just the harmless kind that give you stories to tell later.Bwcause maybe yourh isn't actually an age.
Maybe it's a way of looking at the world. The willingness to wounder. The courage to begin again. The ability to admit that you don't know everything. And the belief that there are still experiences waiting for you. There will always be adventures that couldn't happen today. There will always be songs. We forgot to play.
There will always be dreams that arrive unexpectedly. We cannot experience everything. That's the frustrating part of being alive. But perhaps we don't have to . We just have to make sure that fear, routine, and responsibility don't become excuses for never experiencing anything new.
I didn't want to be forever young because I,'m afraid of getting older. I want to remain young in the places that matter. Because someday, when I look back at my life. I don't want to see someone who spent all their time preparing for the future. I want to see someone who actually lived while getting there.
When you feel life passing you by, do you
Your vote is final.
