As a child parents seemed almost indestructible. They knew where everything was, has. Answers for every question and somehow produced money when school suddenly demanded another notebook. If you were scared, they fixed it, if you were hungry food appeared Back then their problems seemed smaller because they his them
Then you grow older andbstart noticing things you previously ignored. Your father checks his bank balance before ordering something. Your mother quietly calculates grocery prices while staring near the supermarket shelf . They discuss electricity bills repairs, relatives and work. Suddenly the people who raised you have worries too.
The change can happen during something ridiculously ordinary. You are sitting at home watching television when your father complains about his back and slowly gets up from the sofa. You remember being liftedbpnto thouse same shoulders as a child . Somehow that memory makes the moment feel completely different.
You also start noticing their tiredness. Your mother says she is fine while rubbing her feet after spending the evening cooking . Your father returns from work removes his shoes sii ebtoy for a few minutes, and only then asked what everyone wants For dinner.you realise"I'm fine" sometimes means something else.
Their mistakes become easier to understand too As a teenager an argument with your parents can feel like proof that they understand absolutely nothing. Later you realise they were making decisions with whatever information money, experience and emotional strength they had Some choices were wrong, but being wrong never made them heartless.
Eventually you discover their unfinished lives. Maybe your mother once wanted to study something different. Maybe your father has a hobby he abandones after marriage and responsibilities you find an old photograph or hear a story from their childhood and suddenly you realise they existed before you ever entered their lives
That realization Changes arguments as well . You may still disagree about clothes, careers, money, marriage or howblatevyou should stay outside. However you begin seeing the person behind the opinion. The parent saying " be careful" is also someone who has experienced fear, disappointment responsibility and loss throughout their life.
Perhaps becoming abadul means finally meeting your parents properly.bNot as superheroes, authorities or people who are always right, but as two ordinary human beings trying to navigate life.bThwy were figuring things out too. And strangely understanding their imperfections doesn't make them smaller. It makes their sacrifices feel larger
And perhaps that is why growing older can make ordinary moments with them feel different. You notice the cup of tea they make every morning, the messages asking whether you reached safely, the food they keep aside even when you said you were not hungry. These things once felt automatic because they always happened. Now you understand that someone had to remember, prepare, worry, and care .you begin noticing the small ways they show love without announcing it. Maybe they were never indestructible . maybe they were simply doing their best while making you feel safe enough to believe they were. Seeing that can make you want to know them differently.
When you realize your parents are just ordinary people with their own struggles, do you
Your vote is final.
