I didn’t realize how much happiness could come from seeing a few roses bloom in a place I pass every day.
This morning, I stepped onto my balcony like I usually do, without expecting anything particularly special. It was just another ordinary moment in the middle of the day. I looked at the plants for a while, and then I noticed something that immediately made me stop.
There were roses blooming on my balcony.
For some reason, it made me smile in a way I wasn’t expecting. I had seen the plant growing for quite some time. I had watered it, watched new leaves appear, and noticed the little buds forming, but seeing the actual flowers open felt completely different. It was such a small thing, yet somehow it made the whole balcony feel different.
I stood there for a few minutes just looking at them. I think we sometimes forget how many things are happening quietly around us. We get so caught up in college, work, assignments, deadlines, conversations, notifications, plans, and everything else that fills our days that we stop noticing the little changes taking place right in front of us. A plant grows slowly enough that we barely notice it, and then one morning, there is suddenly a flower where there wasn't one before.
It made me think about how much growth happens like that in our own lives too.
We often want immediate results. We want to know that our efforts are working. We want to see progress quickly and sometimes get frustrated when nothing seems to be changing. But maybe some things are simply meant to take time. The rose didn't bloom because I checked it every few minutes. It bloomed because it was growing at its own pace.
And maybe that's something worth remembering.
Not everything needs to happen immediately.
Sometimes we are doing better than we think, even when there is no obvious sign of it yet. We might be learning something, becoming more confident, healing from something, building a habit, understanding ourselves better, or simply getting through a difficult phase. From the outside, it might look like nothing is happening. But underneath the surface, there can be a lot of growth.
The roses on my balcony reminded me of that today.
What I also loved was how ordinary the moment was. I didn't have to go somewhere beautiful to experience it. I didn't need a special occasion, a trip, or a perfectly planned day. I just had to step outside and actually look.
Maybe happiness isn't always something we have to search for.
Sometimes it is sitting quietly on a balcony.
Sometimes it is a cup of tea, a little sunlight, a familiar song, a breeze through the window, or a flower opening after days of waiting. We spend so much time waiting for big moments that we can easily overlook the tiny ones happening every day.
So today, I took a few extra minutes to appreciate those roses.
They probably don't know that they made my morning better. They don't know that their first bloom gave me something to think about for the rest of the day. They were simply there, growing and blooming in their own time. And maybe that's the nicest part of it.
They didn't rush.
They didn't compare themselves to anything else.
They just kept growing.
And one day, without making any announcement, they bloomed. 🌹
Maybe I needed that reminder more than I realized.

When you notice small, quiet growth happening around you, do you
