The Tan, flat whites🏃‍♂️☕️& beating the feature freeze

Woke up thinking today was gonna be a total grind given we’re two days out from the sprint finish, but honestly, the vibes were immaculate. melbourne turned on the charm—went from shivering in the morning to perfect t-shirt weather by lunch. managed to unblock the dev team without a single meeting going overtime (miracle?) and ended up catching the sunset by the river. days like this remind me why i moved here. pure energy.

kicked things off with a lap around The Tan (botanical gardens) before work. seriously, that track is the best shrink i have. the fog was just lifting off the yarra and seeing the balloons hovering over the city skyline was epic. legs felt heavy at the start but by the time i got to the crazy hill near anderson street, the endorphins hit. grabbed a magic (iykyk, best coffee ratio) from that hole-in-the-wall place on flinders lane. melbourne coffee culture has absolutely ruined me for anywhere else in the world. nothing else compares.

work was manic but in a good way. usually, thursdays are panic stations because of the code freeze, but the team was just flowing today. we had a retro at 11 and instead of the usual complaining, everyone was actually solution-mode. fixed that annoying bug in the logistics api that’s been haunting us for weeks. high fives all round. grabbed a banh mi for lunch and sat on the steps at Federation Square. just watched the trams rolling past and the tourists taking selfies. funny watching people try to figure out the hook turns at the intersection. chaotic evil driving rules, gotta love it.

arvo rolled around and realized i actually cleared my jira board. unreal. decided to bail right on 5:30 to meet sarah and ben for a drink. we went to Arbory Afloat—that bar literally floating on the river. sun was going down, everything turning that golden orange colour, city lights starting to twinkle on the water.

talked about everything except work which was refreshing. ben’s planning a trip to japan so we were hyping that up. honestly, sitting there with a cold one, cool breeze coming off the water, good mates... hard to beat. caught the 96 tram home and somehow remembered to tap on my myki card (small wins).

feeling super charged up. gonna crash early so i can hit the surf coast this weekend if the weather holds. loving life rn.
