Satay smells, Marina Bay lights & finding calm in the humidity 🍢🌃

you know those days where the humidity usually saps your will to live? today was strangely different. managed to navigate a super delicate personnel issue without any drama (huge win), found a new stall at lunch that does the perfect laksa, and ended the week watching the light show by the bay. singapore felt less like a frantic business hub today and more like a garden. grateful for the efficiency of this city when it actually works in your favour.

morning started with the usual battle against the air con—too cold inside, sauna outside. walked to the MRT and honestly, i will never stop appreciating how clean the trains are here. caught up on industry news during the ride to Raffles Place. stepping out of the station into the CBD always gives me a rush; looking up at those glass towers scraping the sky makes you feel small but part of something massive.

work was intense but productive. had to lead a tough mediation between two managers from the regional teams. i was dreading it, thinking it would drag on all morning, but we actually found common ground quickly. felt like i actually earned my title today. mentoring the junior HR lead afterwards was the highlight though—seeing the "lightbulb moment" when we discussed empathy in leadership. that’s the stuff i live for.

lunch was non-negotiable. needed comfort food. walked over to Lau Pa Sat. yes, it’s touristy, but being surrounded by the mix of expensive suits and the smell of charcoal satay is just quintessentially singapore. grabbed a bowl of laksa that was spicy enough to make me forget about the spreadsheets for an hour. sat with a colleague and we just watched the office crowd rushing by. the pace here is relentless, but the food culture forces everyone to just pause and enjoy. love that.

wrapped up the week at a decent hour for once. decided to walk along the bay instead of heading straight home. the view of Marina Bay Sands with the three towers and the "boat" on top... it still looks sci-fi to me even after all these years. caught the start of the light show at Gardens by the Bay. seeing the Supertrees light up against the dark sky with the music playing—it’s magical. saw a family of otters crossing the path near the reservoir which was a cute surprise.

home now, jasmine tea in hand. looking out at the city lights from my balcony. the hum of the city never really stops, but tonight it feels peaceful rather than chaotic. ready for a slow weekend.
