Exposure to the new world

I came from a very simple school which was nowhere close to the glamour that we see today in school. I came from a school where everything was simple. When it was my last day at school one of my teachers told me, "be careful. You are stepping into a new world. It may not be at kind and protective as the school was. You will be on your own. There will not be teachers like us to help and guide you. Now you will know how safe you were in our hands". When my teacher told me this I was completely in disbelief. But soon I found out that everything she said was 100% real.
It was my first day at the college. I was really excited because now there was no restriction for uniforms. I was keen to meet new people. But as soon as I entered the college the nervousness took over. My college was not an ordinary college but where the aspiring models and actors would go to. At the gate of the college itself I realised that culturely I am very different from the crowd that I see here. I was wearing a simple kurta with jeans while other students were dressed up as if they were there for big brand commercial. The girls were wearing heavy makeup and expensive fashion jewellery. The boys too were wearing expensive clothes with big brand logos. I also for some boys wearing designer blazers. I immediately felt that I was completely underdressed.
When I entered the college premises the feeling was completely different. As I was walking towards the college building the nervousness had started replacing the excitement. With each step I was feeling that I did not belong there. Yet I decided that I would not let the nervousness take over me and I will present myself with confidence.
I reached the college building where I got to know which classroom was mine. I went to the classroom which was assigned to me. It was huge. Where the school classrooms would fit 60 students here one classroom was supposed to have almost 300 students. Several students had arrived before me and it was a complete chaos. A lot of students were from nearby schools hence they already knew each other. I tried to look for a familiar face but unfortunately there was not any. Then I tried to look for a friendly face in the crowd. Again I did not find any. Then I decided to level up my strategy. I decided to find a nervous face or any student who was showing nervous behaviour. I definitely found a few. Of those nervous faces I decided to approach a girl who also was dressed up like me in a kurta and jeans. She was sitting alone and was looking down just so that she would either blend in the crowd or would become invisible. I approached her and asked her if anybody was going to join her. When she told me that she was not expecting anybody, I asked her if it was okay for me to sit down next to her. She agreed and I sat next to her. That is how I made my first friend within 15 minutes from entering a new world.
It was not the easiest one but not also a difficult one. I knew that there were going to be more challenges ahead. At least with the first success I was ready to face them with the newly found confidence.
